Star rating is a system initiated by BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) India to determine the energy efficiency of consumer durables. In water heaters energy savings is determined by how much of the heat generated by the heating element stays in the water in the inner tank. When choosing a water heater, the capacity of the heater is the next decision to be made. The water heater should be sized correctly to properly fit its use. One that is undersized runs the risk of running out of water, while one that is oversized will waste energy. To enhance hard water protection a Magnesium anode should also be fitted. The anode is used to protect any minute areas not covered by enamel lining. It acts as a sacrificial rod which takes the corrosion attack and extends the life of the tank.
Look out for the warranty offered by the company. All models should have a minimum of 2 years warranty for the product, 3 years warranty on the heating element and 5 years for the inner tank.
